How to get rid of acne scars

Acne is a common skin condition that can be found in different forms and can affect people of all ages. Some more sever forms of acne can be long lasting and form acne scars which can be hard to treat and get rid of.

There are a variety of different treatment options that claim to get rid of or reduce acne scarring, however many treatments only reduce the appearance of the scarring rather than actually get rid of it. Lemon

Lemon juice, if used for a prolonged period of time has natural bleaching properties and this can help to lighten the scar and slightly reduce the appearance of it. Mix equal parts of lemon juice with water and apply the solution directly on the scar and leave for around 20 minutes. It is important to moisturise after using the solution as lemon can dry out the skin.

Aloe Vera

The sap from Aloe Vera is a natural moisturiser that can help to rejuvenate the skin, and it can be used to treat many different conditions including pimples, burns and acne scars. The Aloe Vera sap can speed up the healing process of your acne scars if applied directly on the scar.

The sap contains hormones called gibberellins and polysaccharides and this has anti-bacterial properties which in addition help to invigorate the cell development, which in turn works to repair scars.

Ice

Ice is believed to help reduce the appearance of acne scarring, ice cubes sooth inflamed skin and can also work to reduce redness. If you wrap an ice cube in a cloth and hold it against acne scars for a few minutes it can reduce any redness or inflammation.

Although this method can reduce the initial redness and inflammation of acne scarring, it will not help to permanently remove or reduce the appearance.

Honey

Honey is recognised for having a natural antiseptic agent which can help to reduce scarring caused by acne. Using raw honey daily can work over a period of time to reduce acne scarring. Gently rub the honey over the scar and leave to settle in for a few minutes and wash off.
