What is cellulite?
Cellulite is a condition most common in women; in a nutshell, cellulite is the bumpy, dimpled skin that appears around the thighs, buttocks and abs. It is mainly caused by enlarged packets of body fat deep underneath the skin, pushing up against the underlying connective tissue.
When these fat cells balloon up, the amount of space under the skin is limited and this places upward pressure on the connective tissue. The pressure forces the fat up against the top layers of skin, creating a dimpled look.
What causes cellulite?
There is no sure answer of what exactly causes cellulite, however it is thought that a number of different factors can play a part. Genetics can play a part, as traits such as the thickness and colour of your skin can make you more likely to get cellulite; lifestyle factors such as smoking and those who do not exercise are also likely to lead to cellulite. Wearing tight clothing such as tight underwear can limit blood flow and contribute to the formation of cellulite.
Cellulite treatments
There are a huge variety of different treatments available that claim to reduce the appearance of cellulite; however there is little evidence to shows these creams work.
Weight loss and regular exercise can work towards reducing the appearance of cellulite. Losing weight and tightening muscles in your legs, thighs, buttocks and abdomen you can improve the appearance of dimpled skin. Cellulite will be less noticeable after weight loss, however it will not go away completely.
The most promising treatment to help reduce the appearance of cellulite is laser treatment or radiofrequency systems. These systems can treat cellulite with the use of either infrared light radiofrequency technology or laser energy; They work to improve the appearance of cellulite over a course of time.
