It’s that time of year again, the holiday is booked and you are looking forward to jetting off for a period of rest and relaxation. It’s important when preparing for your holiday that you take the care of your skin seriously, especially if you are heading off to a sunny climate.
We all want to come back with that holiday glow, and you can without neglecting your skin. Here are 5 must have holiday skincare solutions:
1. Sunscreen
This is one of the top priorities if you are planning to be out and about while you are on holiday. Getting the right sunscreen is essential and there are a number of things you need to take into account such as the skin type of each member of the family. If some of you are fair skinned and seldom tan, or there are young children with you, a higher factor sunscreen will be needed.
Everyone should wear a higher factor sunscreen for the first few days of the holiday until your skin gets used to being exposed to the sun and you should never sit in the sun without wearing sunscreen.
It’s also a good idea to put sunscreen on while you are getting dressed in the morning, that way you are less likely to miss areas and allow your skin to absorb the product. You’re also more likely to forget to apply sunscreen once you get to the pool.
Make sure that everyone reapplies sunscreen regularly throughout the day, especially if you have been in and out of the sea or pool, this will greatly reduce the risk of sunburn and exposure to harmful UV Rays.
2. After Sun
There’s nothing like the holiday glow after a fun day by the pool, but your skin will have been exposed to the sun for a longer period that it’s used to so you should take good care of it. After sun is the perfect way to take care of your skin and should be one of your top holiday skincare products.
After sun cools and moisturises the skin, which will dry out in the sun, and will help soothe any burnt bits you may not have noticed. Lather on a good helping of after sun before bed and your skin will thank you for it.
3. Moisturiser
From an air conditioned car, to an air conditioned airport and plane, then onto the same when you arrive at your destination; your skin will really be feeling the strain. Although you can’t take it onto the plane in your hand luggage, make sure you have packed really good moisturisers that are right for your skin type. Day and night face creams are recommended, as well as a good quality body moisturiser.
Make sure your skin is well moisturised before you set off on your holiday and that you reapply on your arrival.
4. Water
One of the best ways to look after your skin, and your overall health, while on holiday is to keep hydrated. If you are out in the sun make sure that everyone drinks 8 – 10 glasses (2 litres) of water a day, especially if you are out exploring.
Make sure you limit the consumption of alcohol, tea, coffee, and soft drinks as these will cause dehydration.
5. Shade
No matter how much water you have drunk or what factor of sunscreen you are wearing, sometimes you simply need to give your skin a rest. Spending some time in the shade is a welcome break for your skin and can help you and your family avoid overexposure to the sun and harmful UV Rays.
Good quality holiday skincare products and routines are essential for all the family. Neglecting your skin can mean parts of the holiday are ruined due to sunburn or dehydration, neglect can even lead to more serious problems down the road. Make sure that your skincare on holiday is one of your top priorities.
