Treatment for Acne & Scar by Laser

Acne Treatment and Management

An Acne skin type can be that of clogged, blocked pores, black heads, white heads, excess oil, pimples and pustules or a combination of these things. Acne causes can be hormones, hereditary, stress related and medications can have an impact too. Environmental conditions and lifestyle or dietary choices can contribute to the condition and management of acne as well.

Acne is highly treatable and manageable with our professional treatments and homecare regimes and we also have a number of skin treatments that can tackle acne scarring such as pitted skin or post inflammatory scarring.

The treatments we recommend best for acne skin types:

  • Skin clearing facial - Suitable for all types of acne from clogged pores to active breakouts.
  • Microdermabrasion – Cleansing for clogged pores, black heads and prevention for future breakouts but not recommended for present active acne pustules or pimples.
  • Blue Light therapy – Kills the bacteria that fuels acne and has a deep cleansing effect, great for young skins or in combination with facials or peels to boost results.
  • Acne skin peel – Amazing for clearing active break outs and reducing oil fast.

The essential homecare items for acne conditions from Dermaquest:

  • Antibacterial enzyme cleanser – Cleanses the skin and dissolves oil also kills the bacteria that causes acne and reduces inflammation.
  • Beta hydroxy cleanser – Reduces excess oil deeply while exfoliating the skin surface and clears pores.
  • Advanced B5 serum – a hydrating gel to ensure the skin is balanced and hydrated, this will improve the appearance of the skins texture.
  • Dermaclear – A treatment moisturiser to reduce break outs, oil and enlarged pores and scaring.
  • Zinclear SPF30 – Protects vulnerable acne skin from UVA/UVB damage and further irritation.

To know which treatment and home care items would suit your individual condition and grade of acne a skin consultation is necessary, where you can discuss your concerns and treatment plan with one of our team of skin experts.

Lifestyle and dietary tips we promote for an Acne sufferer:

  • Avoid over cleansing, over treating or excessively exfoliating the skin other than what is directed by your aesthetician as this can cause irritation and stripping of the skins natural oils, it can then cause a surge of oil in response to this action and poor healing of break outs. Some acne treatments on the market can be too astringent and in fact cause dehydration.
  • Avoid picking and touching break outs or the facial skin, this can cause lesions to heal slower and spread or activate bacterial infections.
  • Protect compromised acne skin from UV rays well, avoid tanning beds and actively tanning the skin in direct sunlight as this can aggravate the condition and increase risk of scarring and future break outs. Twenty minutes of sunlight a day is healthy for the skin before eleven and three without wearing sun block to ensure healthy levels of vitamin D but we do promote use of a physical sun block like Zinclear spf30 daily during all seasons particularly between the above mentioned very light hours of the day.
  • Always remove make up and cleanse in the evenings before sleeping, if dirt, oil grime and pollution from the environment is left on the skin it can lead to clogging of the pore and future break outs. Sleeping in a well ventilated room is essential so keep a window open in bedrooms atnight and regularly change pillow cases.

Particularly if stress and hormones or participating heavily in active sports is a base cause to your skin condition it is important to reduce inflammation internally to help with healing and to assist the body's detoxification processes. You can help with this by drinking 2 Litres of water daily throughout the day, being conscious to limit consumption of refined carbohydrates, processed foods, sugar, caffeine, alcohol and nicotine. Adding plenty of white meats, leafy green and brightly coloured vegetables, berries, fruits and essential fats such as nuts, seeds, avocados, oily fish and good oils will help the natural functions and processes of the skin and defences of the skins barrier. To seek advice from a dietician or to research further is recommended for a more personalised plan or for supplementations.
